these
are photos from various sources on the Internet. they each
represent an element of the childhood i experienced, mostly before the
age of 10
this is the front door of my Nanny, Elizabeth Muller's home in Ridgewood, Brooklyn.
it's been slightly refurbished today, but the door and the 'stoop' are exactly as the were when i was born in 1943.
this is the gate to our back yard. there are 3 garages back there that my grandma rented out
and a small garden where she grew flowers.
we climbed on that gate as kids. the house, left, had
brown asphalt shingles back then, sadly now replaced with vinyl siding.
what did we do for fun, back in Old Brooklyn?
those were fun -
when they didn't fall off half way down the block. but not a much fun as . . .
the Cyclone!
now here's the really fun part. once a year, my Dad took us to
the Chas. Pfizer Co. outing - at Steeplechace Park in Coney Island!!! see Memoir for details.
and . . .
more. seen from the beach.
that elevated sture is NOT the 'EL' it's the Steeplechase ITSELF.
shown here from the inside. see that wooden horse? that's fox hunting for poor people.
and all you needed to ride was this FREE ticket.
after that, it was all the ice cream you could eat
until it ws time to go on . . .
holy shit!! the Parachute.
so how did we get there - in old Brooklyn?
like this or . . . which.
on the inside, looked like . .
this.
or this.
or . . . or . . .
this . .. or even . . .
this.
but sometimes, we just had to stay at home and play stickball . . . and wait fot the ice cream truck to come up the block.
sometimes, Good Humor, and sometimes, . .
BUNGALOW BAR!
thosea are the snap - from old Brooklyn. hope you liked them.
