1) get in a groove/dock of the bay -  this performance is taken from a live cassette recording by Joy Cohen at the No Exit Cafe in Rogers Park IL in Sept. 1976.  the quality is poor, but i include as 'one-of- a-kind'  because of the unique 'medley' with Otis Redding's Dock of the Bay as a middle section.

the original notes for this song are here

2) if i rise -     this performance is taken from a live cassette recording by Joy Cohen at the No Exit Cafe in Rogers Park IL in Sept. 1976.    the recording quality is frankly, hideous.  at this point the cassette recorder is running about a half step fast, and varying in speed at the same time.  i include it simply because it is the only performance of this complex song i know of.   if i can get King Crimson or Jethro Tull to record it again some day, i'll be very happy :))))

3) nina's prelude/ pure light -   this performance is taken from a live cassette recording by Joy Cohen at the No Exit Cafe in Rogers Park IL in Sept. 1976.    the recording quality is again poor,  but there is nice audience singing on 'pure light' and some patter to explain the origin of the song, pure light.

original notes for nina's prelude are here.

original notes for pure light are here

4) nina's song -   this performance is taken from a live cassette recording by Joy Cohen at the No Exit Cafe in Rogers Park IL in Sept. 1976.    the recording quality is again quite poor, but since this is the only recording of the song, i include it without apology.  the song was written as the companion piece to nina's prelude [ see above ]  although, apparently i never performed the 2 songs in sequence.  the link here to song notes for the prelude will explain how it came to be.

5)  keep this poor boy shinin' on  -     this performance is taken from a live cassette recording by Joy Cohen at the No Exit Cafe in Rogers Park IL in Sept. 1976.  i include it with 'new' material because i give a rather long and detailed introduction to it, which supplements the original note on this,  found here

6) - anna and emma  -  this performance is from a cassette recording of a live show at the Folkway, Peterborough, NH in 1982.  the performance has a serious lapse in the 1st verse, and the entire rendering is somwhat tentative.   however, i include it  here because it is the only existing recording of the complex piano accompaniment that i worked out for this lyric.  the original note on this,  found here

7) - city lights -   this performance is from a cassette recording of a live show at the Folkway, Peterborough, NH in 1982.  i include it here because i accompany the song with guitar, aversion i particularly like.     the original note on this can be found here

8) - marylou -     this performance is from a cassette recording of a live show at the Folkway, Peterborough, NH in 1982.  i include because i performed with guitar, in a style, perhaps 'latin'(? ) which is quite different from the original.     the original note on this,  found here

9) funky song  -    this performance is from a cassette recording of a live show at the Folkway, Peterborough, NH in 1978.  i include because i performed it with a finger picking pattern, different from the original.     the original note on this,  found here

10) song of the night  -   this performance is from a cassette recording of a live show at the Folkway, Peterborough, NH in 1978.  i include because i introduce it with some background about how it came to be written.   the original note on this,  found here
